Since 2019, we've been planting one tree for each purchase made on our global website, retail, and wholesalers. In 2020, we made a bigger step, planting even more trees in partnership with FARM Brazil. Now, we exceeded our goal and planted 649,487 trees through our global operations.

Nature has been our greatest inspiration here at FARM Rio for the past 23 years. We believe it is part of our duty to help protect nature and give back to the environment. This is why we have partnered with One Tree Planted to aid in reforestation efforts in four of the main biomes in Brazil: the Amazon rainforest - the largest rainforest in the world and our home -, the Atlantic Forest, Caatinga & Cerrado. For each purchase on our website, in our stores, and at other authorized retailers*, we donate the dollar amount equivalent to one tree to be planted. Since 2020, we’ve made a bigger step, planting even more trees through reforestation projects in partnership with FARM Brazil.

We support various reforestation projects in the Amazon rainforest, the Atlantic Forest, Caatinga & Cerrado, all of which we donate trees to through One Tree Planted. You can find more information about each project below.

In the state of Rondônia, this project aims to offer integrated solutions for financing, technical assistance, agricultural operations, and market intelligence to recover degraded areas in small and medium-sized rural properties with high productivity agroforestry arrangements based on Cocoa (Theobroma cacao). The agroforestry systems will contribute to the forest recovery process, the improvement of ecosystem services, the biological recovery and soil fertility, the potential for creating forest corridors for biodiversity, and the ability to recover microclimates and hydrological processes at all scales. Also, rural producers are directly impacted by job creation and increase in income, benefiting the permanence of small farmers in the countryside, helping to reduce the rural exodus and the evasion of young people.

STATUS: Planting Season 12/01/2021 until 02/28/2022

This project aims to restore degraded land in Lamas, San Martin and Alto Amazonas in Loreto, Peru. Its primary goal is to reduce forest fires, as well as increase the connectivity in forest patches, restore endemic wildlife habitats, recirculate nutrients and nectar for bees, prevent carbon sinks, grow economic income for producers, and increase the supply of non-timber forest products.

ATLANTIC FOREST, Mantiqueira Mountains

The project aims to strengthen the activities of the Green Initiative in the Mantiqueira Mountains region - approximately 100 km from the city of São Paulo - where the institution works with several other partners, including NGOs such as The Nature Conservancy, World Resources Institute, WWF, as well as with local institutions and governments. This networking activity aims to establish sustainable and relevant projects for the region, especially in the implementation of native forest restoration projects, contributing to the increase of green infrastructure in a region of extreme environmental importance for the metropolitan regions of São Paulo and Campinas.

ATLANTIC FOREST, Corridors of Life

In Brazil, the largest forest remnants in the interior Atlantic Forest lie in the Pontal do Paranapanema area in western São Paulo state. IPÊ - Instituto de Pesquisas Ecológicas (Institute for Ecological Research) developed a “Dream Map” for this region. The project, named Corridors for Life aims at: 1) restoring large areas in private lands to promote connectivity between forest fragments and protected areas; 2) promoting the occupation of the restored and connected areas by the local fauna; 3) promoting the change in land use practices of small and largescale farmers in rural fragmented areas; 4) improving small farmers’ livelihoods and; 5) providing investors a return in the form of high-quality carbon offsets.

Through their leaves and bark, trees suck up harmful pollutants and help clean the air we breathe. Their roots act like filters, removing pollutants and capturing rainwater which helps reduce the risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides. And they provide and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people. They also can reduce overall temperature by absorbing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. And they provide key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.

How do you determine what number of trees to donate?

For each purchase made in stores, online and at other retailers, we donate the dollar amount equivalent to one tree to be planted. Orders in which full returns are made do not count as a purchase.

What if a tree does not survive after planting?

The numbers we are sharing are based on the number of seedlings that were planted (or are to be planted in the upcoming planting season). Ensuring the survival and development of these seedlings is the sole and exclusive responsibility of the rural owners and farmers involved in theses project.

What is your tree donation initiative for wholesale partners?

For every 3 pieces ordered through our wholesale channel, we donated one tree to be planted.

How do I know where my tree will be planted?

Every year we select new projects to support in partenership with One Tree Planted, as listed above. Your tree will be planted in one of the areas designed in each project, depending on the timing and status of funding.

When will my trees be planted?

The time between your donation and the actual tree planting will vary depending on the region you have chosen and the time of year. Planting usually happens during the rainy season, when the soil provides optimum conditions for tree survival.
